As Donald Trump rejects free trade and pushes the Donald Doctrine, the EU and Japan are set to sign a sweeping free trade deal that will ease protectionism and touch on sensitive areas such as the export and import of cheese and car parts. The deal is aimed at reducing European tariffs on Japanese car parts whilst Japan in return will reduce tariffs on food items such as cheese and meat.
Such deals underscore the importance of free trade in shaping the global economy and re-iterate the assertiveness of the liberal world order and that re-writing decades of economic policy can cause instability and the loss of key partners as in the case of USA.
